Practical Wedding Planning Advice From Budgets to Caterers to Guest Lists…

First of all CONGRATULATIONS!!! The following are a few tips on planning that wonderful wedding or yours…

Set a Budget

There are several online breakdowns to help you gage what you will be spending where. For most couples, a wedding is the first time you’ll ever have to think about planning a huge event, let alone creating a wedding budget. Planning a wedding budget is not an easy conversation but one that needs to happen.

Create Your Guest List

Of course this comes after you have decided on your budget. You need to decide on how many guest you want and can allow at your budget and venue. Start early collecting names and addresses. Make a spreadsheet on a Google Doc sheet so everyone can collaborate.

Decide on a Style and Design

After the engagement party it is time to start a pinterest board with a clear vision and style of what your wedding will look like. Will your wedding be modern, vintage, or something totally unique? Discover your dream wedding style, then learn ways to express it through color, design, and more.

Venues

After the budget, guest list and style you envision for your big day, the next stop is finding a venue. You may need two Venues a Church or Synagogue and a Reception Venue. The important decisions for the venue are: geographical location, driving and traffic consideration, style of the venue, guest count, weather factor, food and alcohol quality and, coordination services of the venue. The style of your wedding plays a huge role in which venue you decide upon.

Food and Drink Catering

Food and how it’s presented sets the mood for your wedding. Are you looking for casual or formal? How about bringing out different types of food all throughout the night? Maybe different types of food from different portions of the world? This way the wedding is more of a celebration and more socializing will be the result. A mobile coffee and smoothie bar for your wedding is something of a trend for the last couple of years. Instead of just offering regular coffee with your dessert bar, you can take it up a notch with speciality coffee drinks and smoothies. It’s a great way to give your guests an extra boost so they can get their groove on!

Other Wedding Vendors

As soon as you choose a date for the wedding start thinking about whom you need to meet and hire for your wedding vendors. You will need a marriage officiant, photographer, music, flowers, cakes, catering, dress and attire, beauty and health instruction, videographer, and on and on. Have questions ready and make sure all the i’s are dotted and t’s crossed on all contracts. Make sure you have everything in writing and check with all vendors 1 week in advance of the wedding to make sure all is as you planned.

Shop for a Wedding Dress

It can take 6 to 9 months for your gown to arrive and get altered so be sure to get started on this as soon as all the above steps of the wedding are in place. A few suggestions of choosing that perfect dress: first figure out the silhouette that works best for you, bring your camera when you go wedding dress shopping, and ask questions. Do I feel beautiful, confident and comfortable? Can I dance in it? Can I sit down? Am I self-conscious about any part of my body in my dress?” Although a gown may be gorgeous, if you can’t move in it all night and feel trapped, mummy-style, it’s not the right one for you.

Shopping for Bridesmaids Dresses

Take a look at your own dress. Think about your gown and overall wedding style. Is it classic, modern, or maybe vintage? Your bridesmaids’ dresses should fit the vibe. If you’re wearing a bohemian lace dress, your maids might look out of place in formal taffeta dresses. Think seriously about the color. Remember, it’s your day. Do not succumb to pressure to make everyone happy, you can never make everyone happy.
